Students of exceptional talent who have significant research experience and who have already been honored through other awards or recognitions will make the strongest applicants. Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the sciences, social sciences, engineering, or mathematics by pursuing original, creative work at an advanced level as indicated by awards, prizes, research, and letters of recommendation. Applicants in the sciences and engineering must demonstrate extensive laboratory experience, internships, or related work, and applicants in mathematics must show substantial independent work.
The University of Iowa has nurtured the talents of five Churchill Scholars, including James Ankrum (2007), Maria Drout (2009), Suzanne Carter (2012), Colorado Reed (2012), and Guowei Qi (2021).
