Supports individuals who plant to enter a research-focused master’s, doctoral or MFA program

Funds graduate study. Each scholar receives a total of $34,000 in support their graduate education. Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. There are no geographic restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships, and research grants. Scholars are encouraged to begin graduated study as soon as possible following graduation from college and must utilize all of the funding within five years of completion of undergraduate studies.

Prioritizes the following characteristics:

  • Superior standards of intellectual ability
  • Scholastic ability - UI Applicants should have > 3.7 GPA
  • Substantive experience conducting research or creating/performing as an undergraduate
  • Documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during undergrad

 

Institutional Nomination is required. Prospective applicants are expected to work with the Office of Scholar Development to prepare their application materials and consider their strongest roster of recommenders prior to the established campus deadline.

 

*Students concentrating in natural science-focused subfields of the Social Sciences will be less competitive as Beinecke applicants. Graduate programs in neuroscience are not supported.
